Summary:
The Attendant is responsible for the daily cleaning, servicing, and minor maintenance of transit buses, support equipment, and facilities. This role involves operating commercial vehicles and service equipment, performing moderate repairs under supervision, and reporting defects or necessary repairs. The Attendant also ensures the cleanliness and upkeep of buildings and grounds while assisting with tire and wheel changes as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned that are in keeping with the goals and objectives of CARTA.
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform daily cleaning and general service of transit buses and support equipment.
- Make moderate repairs under close supervision.
- Report defects and needed repairs on all serviced vehicles.
- Operate commercial vehicles and service equipment safely and efficiently.
Facility and Grounds Upkeep:
- Maintain the cleanliness of the building and grounds daily.
- Ensure work areas are kept in a safe and organized condition.
Additional Duties:
- Change wheels and tires as assigned.
- Assist maintenance staff with various tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- Prior experience in vehicle cleaning, servicing, or maintenance is a plus.
- Experience operating commercial vehicles or service equipment is beneficial.
Skills
- Preferred CDL-B Class or above. Required to obtain B Class or above within 90 days (CARTA will provide training but responsibility to pay and pass for the written exam is the responsibility of the employee).
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to operate commercial vehicles and service equipment safely.
- Good communication skills to report defects and necessary repairs effectively.
- Ability to periodically pass the Department of Transportation physical examination.
- Physical ability to lift and move various equipment, tools, and supplies.
