Summary:
The Shuttle Operator is responsible for safely operating an electric shuttle bus along an assigned route and schedule. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to safety, and the ability to handle various operational responsibilities, including assisting passengers with disabilities, communicating via two-way radio, and completing detailed reports. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to providing excellent public transportation services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned that are in keeping with the goals and objectives of CARTA.
Shuttle Operations:
- Operate an electric shuttle bus on an assigned route while adhering to the designated schedule.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and CARTA policies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and other CARTA personnel via a two-way radio.
Passenger Assistance and Customer Service:
- Answer passenger inquiries regarding routes, schedules, and other CARTA-related information.
- Assist passengers with disabilities by operating the wheelchair lift and securing wheelchairs as needed.
- Provide courteous and professional service to all passengers and members of the public.
Reporting and Compliance:
- Prepare detailed written reports regarding accidents, incidents, breakdowns, and mechanical defects.
- Report any operational or mechanical issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety and performance.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
- Previous experience in public transportation, commercial driving, or customer service is preferred.
- Experience operating large vehicles or shuttle buses is a plus.
Skills:
- Ability to safely operate an electric shuttle bus in various traffic and weather conditions.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow schedules, routes, and safety procedures.
- Basic report writing skills for documenting incidents and mechanical issues.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver License (minimum class B) with a Passenger endorsement.
- Maintain a valid Department of Transportation medical examination card.
