Job Summary:
The Safety and Training Supervisor is responsible for the daily training operations of the agency, ensures compliance with federal and state safety regulations, and supports the development and implementation of training programs across all CARTA departments. This role requires strong leadership, curriculum design experience, and the ability to manage training compliance and reporting systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure training compliance with FMCSA, FTA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Design, implement, and update training programs and materials.
- Conduct orientation, certification, and refresher training for new and current employees.
- Track training records, compliance status, and certification renewals.
- Participate in safety committee initiatives and promote organizational safety culture.
- Monitor trainee progress and perform evaluations and in-service ride checks.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and manage ELDT website data input.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a training/safety role, preferably in transportation.
- Valid Tennessee CDL Class B with passenger & air brake endorsements.
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Certifications:
- TSI Certifications (e.g., Substance Abuse Management, SMS Principles, Transit System Safety, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
- Must pass DOT physical; position requires random drug/alcohol testing.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and perform duties involving standing, walking, driving, and occasional climbing or kneeling.
