Incline Conductor
Department: Lookout Mountain Incline Railway
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Incline Director
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee
Summary:
The Incline Mountain Railway Conductor is responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and overall experience of passengers while riding the railway. This role involves ticket collection, passenger safety, crowd control, and monitoring track conditions. The conductor must also assist with transitions between trains when necessary and ensure the cleanliness of rail cars after each trip.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned that are in keeping with the goals and objectives of CARTA.
Passenger Safety and Crowd Control:
- Ensure all passengers are seated before departure.
- Oversee passenger safety and manage crowd control at loading stations.
- Answer passenger questions and provide assistance as needed.
Train Operations and Track Monitoring:
- Collect tickets as passengers board the rail car.
- Watch for obstructions on the track while the train moves up and down the mountain.
- Switch between trains at the halfway point when required.
Maintenance and Cleanliness:
- Walk through the rail car at the end of each trip to check for debris or lost belongings.
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Education and Skills:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Physically able to walk through rail cars and perform safety checks.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to periodically pass the Department of Transportation physical examination conducted by the company physician.
