CARTA’s free, all-electric shuttle system started in June 1992 with its’ Downtown Shuttle providing service from the Choo Choo to the Tennessee Aquarium. Since then, the shuttle system has expanded its’ service areas to the North Shore and St. Elmo communities and to date, has carried almost 24 million passengers. CARTA is considered a pioneer in the transportation industry by implementing and sustaining this unique service fleet for three decades. This innovative approach has transported people by saving gas, and relieving congestion and tailpipe emissions.
CARTA will celebrate this milestone anniversary on Thursday, June 16th at its’ Shuttle Park South plaza at 11 a.m. This date is especially significant as the dedication of the first electric shuttle was held on June 16, 1992.
