Manager of Communications and External Relations
Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer
Location: Chattanooga, TN (Onsite Position), Exempt
POSITION STATEMENT
The Manager of Communications and External Relations is a pivotal role at CARTA, responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy. This role oversees media relations, community outreach, corporate events, social media, internal communications, and marketing for the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. Additionally, the position manages advertising sales and ensures a unified brand policy across all organizational communications. This position also supervises the customer service team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications Program Development:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy for CARTA.
- Establish and maintain media relations to promote CARTA’s initiatives, services, and events.
- Manage community relations and outreach programs to engage and inform the public about CARTA’s services and initiatives.
- Plan and execute corporate events that enhance CARTA’s visibility and stakeholder engagement.
- Oversee the organization’s social media presence, ensuring timely and engaging content across all platforms.
- Manage CARTA’s inbound call center and microtransit dispatch operation.
Internal Communications:
- Develop and implement an internal communications program to keep employees informed and engaged.
- Facilitate effective communication between CARTA’s leadership and the Board of Directors.
Marketing and Brand Management:
- Oversee marketing efforts for the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway through coordination with a third-party vendor.
- Manage the sales of advertising space, including bus wraps, to generate revenue.
- Ensure a consistent and unified brand policy across all CARTA communications and marketing materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in a public transportation or public sector environment.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies.
- Strong media relations skills and experience managing social media platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with internal communications and corporate event planning.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and experience overseeing marketing efforts through third-party vendors.
- Ability to maintain a unified brand identity across all communications and marketing channels.
- Supervisory experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience in the transportation or public sector.
- Knowledge of the Chattanooga area and community.
